This is how we make it feel real, natural, and engaging—like a conversation you weren’t meant to hear, but can’t stop watching.

Here’s the secret sauce when directing and shooting a newsroom interview that is binge-worthy.

On The Wellness Hour, we use a four-camera setup.

Two of those are what we call establishing shots. The first is a wide shot of the entire news desk, showing me and the guest together, so viewers instantly know it’s a real interview on a professional set. The second is an over-the-shoulder shot from behind me, with part of my head and shoulder in the frame. That angle makes it clear the guest is being interviewed, not just talking to the camera.

These let us capture emotion, eye contact, and expression—so the viewer feels connected. It creates the feeling that they’re eavesdropping on something personal, something that just might be about them.

The other two cameras are for close-ups.
